Natural Acne Remedy: How Does Extra Virgin Olive Oil Rate For Acne Care Treatment?

Does extra virgin olive oil work for acne care treatment? The answer seems to be “Yes”. For some people, at least. For me, EVOO did not help, but did not make my skin condition worse either. I would say that it is worth testing for your own skin.

There are actually 4 different ways of using olive oil as a natural acne remedy:

  • Use a cleanser made from olive oil extract
  • Cleanse your face with olive oil (Use it like a make-up remover)
  • Use it as a facial masque
  • Use olive oil as a moisturizer

When using a cleanser made from olive oil extract, you get what you pay for. A group of friends tested 3 different brands of olive oil cleanser: a cheap brand from their local departmental store, a high-end brand from an upscale boutique, and another high-end brand bought from a catalogue. The cheap brand caused more acne, but the two different expensive brands worked very well.

Here is a more economical way to cleanse your face using olive oil:

  1. Apply a small amount of extra virgin olive oil to your skin, rubbing gently with finger-tips in circular motions. You may notice some hard grainy things. These are actually dislodged blackheads.
  2. Wash with a glycerin soap bar – A generic brand works quite well. You don’t need to buy the orange-colored bars from Nutrogena

If this method of using EVOO for natural acne skin care works for you, you will find that your face becomes less oily after a week or so. Your skin will also have a natural, healthy glow. In two or three weeks, you will have fewer acne breakouts.

    Where can olive oil for acne bought or can you use the olive oil for food ?

    Yes, you can use olive oil used for cooking. However, you may want to separate the two. In other words, buy a new bottle of extra virgin olive oil from your grocer, pour a little into a separate bottle for your face and keep this bottle together with your toiletries. You can keep the main bottle in the kitchen for your cooking.
